Here are some common, easy, things to do to enhance the protection of information:

  • Memorize passwords and PIN's. At least write them down somewhere.
  • Be cautious about giving information out over the phone. If your financial institutions asks you for it, then maybe they're not really your financial institutions. They already have your information. They have no need to ask you for it.
  • Change passwords and PIN's every once in a while.
  • If you bank online, sign out of your account and then close the browser. In fact, delete your browser history. That's something you should do anyway. It clogs up a computer.
  • When you receive an email, it should have your full name as per your account. If you have just signed up for a new account or a personal loans, ask your representative what an email might look like and what email address it would be coming from. Also, record the name and number of representative you are talking to in case you want to phone. Get the name and number of a second representative as a back-up.

So, go ahead. Get that personal loan in person or apply for it online. The application process for online personal loans is tired and tested. Your credit card is far more vulnerable, but, to their credit, credit card companies act quickly to issues that arise.
